Engineers for a Sustainable World to Host its First DigitalCon

Pittsburgh, PA — April 10, 2020 Amid the recent coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW),  a nonprofit network of more than 1,750 college students and professionals throughout 50 university and professional chapters, will host a DigitalCon in replacement for the in-person regional conference and is inviting all university students and professionals to the first ever ESW DigitalCon. The event will take place on April 18, 2020.

“At Engineers for a Sustainable World, the safety and wellness of volunteers and participants in ESW events are our top priority,” said Sohn Cook, Acting Executive Director of Engineers for a Sustainable World. “During this recent outbreak, we want to encourage our volunteers and students who have worked extremely hard on their projects, which can still be shared and viewed through our DigitalCon, to stay safe and be encouraged to continue making a difference in the world.”

The DigitalCon will bring together the brightest minds in sustainability, design, and engineering to find solutions to the world’s toughest environmental challenges. The virtual event will showcase students with two- to four-minute video poster presentations, design reviews, project discussions, and live speakers from the engineering and sustainability field.

“We are thrilled that in this technological age, we can continue to discuss sustainability, hear from students and professionals, and design environmental solutions online,” said Alyssa Owens, Director of Events. “The first ever DigitalCon20 will give us the opportunity to connect students from around the country while staying safe and healthy at home."

The eight-hour event will be a mix of live and pre-recorded speaker sessions, workshops, an Earth Hacks virtual hackathon, where participants will spend two hours hacking a solution to climate change, an announcement of winners of the campus sustainability challenge video competition, a virtual poster/YouTube presentation and some “funtivities” like various hangout rooms for Jackbox games, discussions, and cooking.
